Capcom, the responsible for some of the greatest games in the history of the industry, has launched a new video trailer for the upcoming installment of one of its most popular franchises: Resident Evil. Developed for the Nintendo 3DS portable console, Resident Evil: Revelations will mark the return of the saga to its survival-horror nature, with an increased focus on puzzle-solving and exploration.
You have once again entered the world of survival horror
After the last Resident Evil releases saw a significant raise in the action (to the detriment of the puzzle nature of the first editions), Capcom decided to go back to the franchise’s roots, a return that involves some old acquaintances and an intriguing plot with a major stress on horror atmospheres.
The story will take place between the events depicted in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 and it will revolve around the protagonist of the first game of the series: Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. Now co-founder of a counter-terrorism group know as Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), Jill will have to embark on the search of her long-time partner, who went missing in a cruise ship.
The game will take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS capabilities, especially of its touch screen and the Circle Pad extension, which will play a major roll within the title and which will help players in solving puzzles and exploring the levels in detail.
What’s new
If you check the video below, you’ll get a glimpse of what Resident Evil: Revelations will offer you. One of the most interesting additions is the multiplayer mode, called Raid mode. In it, two players will make cooperative runs across some of RE:R campaign scenarios killing everything in sight and trying to get to the end of the level.
While doing so, they’ll be gathering ammo, XP and weapon attachments which can be used to improved your arsenal later on. It’s a fun mode that you’ll be able to play locally or through the Web.
But this isn’t the only addition to the franchise. Player will now have the possibility to alternate between the first and the third person perspectives, according to their liking. In this way, gamers accustomed to one perspective will be able to fit the game to their personal tastes.
Resident Evil: Revelations is set to be released by the end of January, 2012 and, if it’s as half as good as it seems, we’re in for an amazing return to the franchise’s best shape.
